The more evenly you distribute the grounds, the more evenly water will flow through the bed of coffee. As a result, your extractions will be more balanced, repeatable and most importantly, delicious.

When it comes to distribution tools, there is no better bang for your buck, and most would say, more effective, than the Weiss Distribution Technique, or WDT. Not all tools are created equal, however, and if you have tried this technique before and had disappointing results, it was probably the tool at fault. Needle thickness, stiffness, number, and array matter. Too much—even too few—of any and all of those, and you will struggle to have good results with the technique.

To use, ensure that the battery pack is switched to ON, then connect the included DC power cord into the battery back and the single pin connector on your 58’s temperature controller. Set your temperature controller to your desired setting and use as normal. 

To conserve battery, we recommend keeping your preheat to no more than 5-10 min, and power back off both the battery and the 58 as soon as you’ve pulled your shot(s).

Brewing with a bottomless 58mm portafilter is great, but there are times it’s not the best tool for your brew. If you’re pulling a fast-flow recipe such as an allonge or turbo shot it can get very messy, and what do you do if you want to brew for yourself and someone else, and would like to split the espresso shot? And, most spouted portafilters are challenging in that it can be difficult – if not impossible – to arrange the spouts to where you need them to split the shot into two cups.
